The Story of Dahab Ra

Gold has long been woven into the story of Egypt. Revered by ancient civilizations as a symbol of power, prosperity, and divine connection, it has remained a part of Egyptian life for thousands of years. From the celebrations of new life & bonded togetherness, to the sentimental gift that one can receive as passed down generationally. Dahab means gold in Arabic, and Ra is the ancient Egyptian sun god, a symbol of light, life, and eternity. Together, they embody the heritage, craftsmanship, radiance, and timelessness that inspire everything we create; every Dahab Ra piece is designed and handcrafted in Egypt by local artisans. Across the globe, solid 18K gold is less familiar to the more casual consumer, often understood through plated or vermeil jewelry rather than as solid gold itself. While 18K is recognized globally as a fine jewelry standard, we at Dahab Ra saw an opportunity to introduce it more authentically through the lens of refined and detailed Egyptian craftsmanship and culture.

The Story of the Founders

THE RINGS THAT BROUGHT A SHARED PASSION TO LIFE

Raised in worlds that could not have been more different, co-owner Sarah grew up amidst the fast-paced coastal charm of New Jersey, while Honaida’s roots trace back to the timeless and captivating culture of Egypt. What began as a contrast of backgrounds eventually evolved into a shared journey when Honaida moved to the United States, bringing these two worlds together. One day in Miami, Sarah complimented Honaida’s rings. The rings looked unlike anything found in most jewelry stores, but rather pieces that felt collected over a lifetime, each carrying a story of its own. Naturally, the ever-common question came when curiosity is elevated out of interest: “Where are they from?” As fate would have it, when Sarah learned that Honaida was Egyptian, it sparked an immediate fascination. Egypt, known affectionately as “Mother of the World” (or “Om El Donia” in Arabic), had long held a place on her travel bucket list. Months later, after plenty of planning and anticipation, the two found themselves wandering the streets of Egypt together, exploring its rich culture and searching for the finest gold the country had to offer. What followed was a conversation that lasted for hours. They spoke about family traditions, heirlooms passed between generations, and the role gold plays in everyday Egyptian life, from celebrations and milestones to gifts that become part of a family's story, to the regular visits to the Gold store by Honida’s mom back home in the bustling city of Alexandria. Each ring opened the door to stories of afternoons spent wandering through Egypt’s gold markets, and of a culture where gold is woven into everyday life. That conversation became the beginning of Dahab Ra. They spent our days walking through the same gold markets that had inspired so many of the conversations. They met local artisans, learned about techniques, and immersed ourselves in a tradition of craftsmanship that is both rich and daring. Somewhere between the workshops, the conversations, and the endless rows of gold-lined shop windows, what had started as curiosity became a shared vision. By the end of the trip, They knew they wanted to create something meaningful. Beyond the gold itself, what left the deepest impression was the culture surrounding it. Everywhere they went, they encountered a strong sense of community, pride, and respect for traditions that have endured through generations. It was a reminder that true luxury is not only found in what we wear, but in the stories and values that give those pieces meaning. To feel Dahab Ra is to feel luxurious and powerful, mirroring Egypt's own luxury & spiritual strength. Which begs the question we ask every time during the process of a single piece of jewelry created What if more people could experience gold the way generations of Egyptians have? Not as something temporary, but as something lasting. Worn daily, carried forwar
